Taiwan’s Yusco and Tang Eng Petition for Anti-Dumping Investigation on Vietnamese Cold-Rolled Stainless Steel Imports
Two of Taiwan’s major stainless steel producers, Yieh United Steel Corp. (Yusco) and Tang Eng Iron Works Co., Ltd., have officially filed a petition with the Ministry of Finance on October 9 requesting an anti-dumping (AD) investigation into cold-rolled stainless steel imports from Vietnam.
According to Taiwan’s trade regulations, the Ministry has 40 days to decide whether to initiate the investigation, meaning an outcome is expected by around November 20. If the case follows the timeline of previous carbon steel investigations, the process could begin as early as early November.
⚙️ Impact of Low-Priced Imports on Taiwan’s Stainless Steel Market
The petition argues that Vietnamese cold-rolled stainless steel, imported at unfairly low prices, has severely affected Taiwan’s domestic producers by undermining market prices and reducing profitability. Both Yusco and Tang Eng urge the government to impose anti-dumping duties to restore fair competition and market balance within Taiwan’s stainless steel industry.
This move follows months of concern over increasing stainless imports from Vietnam, which have increased sharply in recent years and now account for a significant share of Taiwan’s total stainless steel imports.
🌍 Global Context and Industry Outlook
The case reflects a broader global trend of intensifying trade protection within the stainless steel sector. As major economies, including the U.S., EU, Japan, and China, continue to enforce anti-dumping measures to protect local industries, Taiwan’s decision will likely influence regional trade flows across East and Southeast Asia.
Industry experts note that the outcome of this investigation could reshape supply dynamics in the Asian stainless steel market, particularly for cold-rolled 304 and 316 grades, which are commonly used in construction, consumer appliances, and precision manufacturing.
